Success Stories Of Writers Who Struck It Rich

It is no secret that the lifestyle of a writer can hard sometimes. We (wrtiers) have a deep passion for what we do, that's why we do it; But making a living from writing can sometimes be challenging. many writers to a point to believe it comes with the craft and that writers can't have both intelletual as well as financial success.

Well, history is full of writers that have done just that- Build a career as a writer and create wealth from it without sacrifying their integrity. I have researched and compiled hundreds of writers who have accomplished this and here are their stories:

#1
J.K. Rowling

Presently the wealthiest author in the world is J.K. Rowling. Rowling lived in very poor conditions most of her life as a writer, it wasn't until her famous series of Harry Potter novels became one of the biggest book series of all times, even making it to the big screen. Rowling is now worth approximately 1 billion, making her the richest author in history.

#2
Sandra Cisneros

Cisneros drew up in the Chicago and L.A. area, her family was very poor and they moved constantly betwee Chicago and L.A. She was inspired by the poor neighborhood she grew up, they reminded her of France after World War II, due to the empty lots and burned-out-buildings. That was the way she escaped her impoverished reality. Her first major success was "The House on Mango Street", which won the Before Columbus Foundation’s American Book Award in 1985.

Cisneros continue winning literary awards including the McArthur Fellowship Grant of $225,000. Between her successful books and literary awards she has accumulated great wealth as a writer.

#3
Stephen King

Stephen King was very poor for a big part of his adult life, he worked at an industrial laundromat and as a teacher. King and his wife has to borrow money constantly to cover their basic needs.

His first major success came with his book "Carrie", King sold the reprint rights to Carrie for a grand total of 400,000 dollars. He found even greater success when his novels were adapted into major motion pictures in Hollywood. King is now worth approximately $400 million.

I hope this post serves as a motivation to many writers to never give up dreaming, although many writers don't place too high a value of monetary rewards money surely makes life easier. You can live anywhere in the world, you can create a foundation to promote literacy in your favorite area of the world, or you can just non-writer usually do - buy a Ferrari. The choice is yours, it is your life afterall.
